JANET JACKSON ANNOUNCES LAS VEGAS RESIDENCY KICKING OFF IN MAY

Janet Jackson on stage

Janet Jackson Metamorphosis

After both Cardi B and Drake announced multi-million dollar Vegas residencies it seemed safe to say that Sin City was stacking the deck. That is, until they blew all competition and festival lineups out of the water by booking the legend that is Janet Jackson. That’s right, the six time Grammy award winner will start her residency entitled “Metamorphosis” on May 17th at MGM’s Park Theater.

Lasting throughout the summer and ending in August, Metamorphosis will take fans on a journey of the pop icon’s life. With a tribute to the 30th year anniversary of Rhythm Nation we can only imagine that Janet Jackson, (Ms. Jackson if ya nasty!) will launch the show with pyrotechnics and Paula Abdul inspired choreography that cater to all of our inner dancers.

Janet The Woman

As Janet fans we can only hope that she performs songs that will let us in on the times she struggled to find her identity outside of her father Joe Jackson and touches on her great loves including her relationships with music industry legends like Debarge and Dupri.

Another highlight would be to see the performer humanized and depicts as a mother. Maybe she will take a page out of the Carter’s book and give us a slide show of the son she shares ex-husband and Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana. Regardless of the path she takes in telling her story, there is no wrong way. After losing her father to cancer not too long ago, becoming a single mother, and going back on tour we are sure there are both new and old stories that Janet has had time to interpret and fit into this show.

Not one to be defined by the men in her life, Janet Jackson has never been shy to use her moments of honor and achievement to touch on bigger and greater issues. When accepting he MTV Global Icon Award she spoke of women’s rights saying:

“Tonight I feel moved to speak for women whose voices have been stifled,” she said. “I am one of those women. Women who have been gagged, both literally and emotionally. Women who have been abused. Women who have been intimidated. Women who have lived in fear. I stand with you. You are my sisters. Tonight, I carry the hope that a new world is emerging. A world in which caring people, male as well as female, will no longer tolerate gender inequality. Women, our voices will be heard.

Special Guests

The rap fan in me hopes that she is able to bring DrakeKendrick, or J Cole out on stage for at least one show to perform Poetic Justice or No Sleeeep respectively. Drake is doing 5 shows starting May 4th so maybe we could get all three? #manifest OH! Could you imagine the sound effects of rain coming down, the stage transforming into a steamy bedroom and Cole surprising the crowd with “I need time…just a lil more…?”

I’m hype.
